Breakdown

  • Trial Period 8.0

I recently started getting into my own mental health, primarily due to concerns over anxiety and depression. I know it’s a hard thing to talk about for myself and others. It gets easier to deal with when I’m more honest and forthcoming with my journey. So one thing I discovered online as a coping technique for anxiety relief was weighted blankets.

Kind of a weird thing, right? Reading more about them, I started to get the idea of why they may help me and many others. Everyone could use a comforting hug once in a while, but perhaps you don’t have anyone around for a bit, or maybe you just like more hugs than others. Weighted blankets might just be the clutch item for you.

Those with mental health conditions should consider this as part of their self-care treatment, but those are not the only people who should consider this heavy blanket. If you suffer from restless leg syndrome, insomnia, tossing and turning, or general body pains, this could be perfectly suited to those folks too.

For me, this product had the potential to cover two bases, both my anxiety and depression and my insomnia. It made trying this out a no-brainer. Hopefully, it can be the same for you too!

Who Might Like the Honeybird Weighted Blanket?

A weighted blanket can be suitable for anyone, but they are great for those that struggle with healthy sleep habits. If you find yourself having to take a sleeping aid every night to fall asleep, a weighted blanket may be the solution for you.

Not only can the weighted blanket be beneficial for those with insomnia, but research also shows that pressure stimulation caused by the extra weight can also help those with anxiety, mental health issues, or autism.

The therapeutic blankets have many mental and physical benefits. It helps to relax the nervous system and help with pain or stress.

What to Consider When Buying a Weighted Blanket?

Material

The material of the blanket determines how soft and comfortable it feels when you are sleeping. Not only does the material of the outside of the blanket matter, but the inside pellets are also extremely important as well.

Some companies use plastic pellets, while others choose microglass or other materials to give the blanket its weight. While some cheaper blankets have bigger plastic pellets, this can cause awkward distribution or undesirable noises when moving around.

Instead of assisting your sleep, it can negatively affect it.

Cover

A removable cover is not always something that people look for, but we found that it was an easy and convenient way to wash and keep the blanket clean. It also adds to the customization of the weighted blanket. You can use it without a cover for hotter days and keep the cover on for cooler nights.

Weight

The weight of the blanket is essentially the most important aspect. The suggested weight for a weighted blanket is 10% of your body weight to be most effective.
A blanket that is too light may not be effective, and a blanket that is too heavy can be uncomfortable and wake you up at night.

Distribution

Another important factor when choosing a weighted blanket is the quality of the weight distribution.

You may wonder why weighted blankets come with unique patterns. This is because the weighted materials sit in these pockets to distribute weight evenly.

For the most part, cheaper blankets have bigger sections that do not distribute the weight as evenly.

Warranty

A trial period or warranty is especially important for these products because it may not be for everyone.

They are also quite a hefty investment, and the last thing you want is to spend money on something you end up not using. A trial period gives you time to adjust to the added weight and decide whether it works for you.

Design

Honeybird Weighted Blanket

Honeybird blankets have a unique two-layer design.

The main component, or inner layer, is the weighted blanket and the optional part is the cooling, cotton duvet cover. This design makes it easy to clean and also more customizable to your liking.

For warmer days, or for those that sleep hot, you can take off the cover and use just the weighted portion. The cover adds a layer of warmth as well as a soft cotton cover that feels comfortable.

Filling

Honeybird Glass Beads
The weighted blankets are filled with micro glass beads that are ultra-fine and feel almost like sand. The small size adds the optimal weight without excess volume. The dense micro glass beads are secured between layers and contour seamlessly.

Which Honeybird Blanket is Right for You?

Honeybird recommends different weight “sizes” for certain customer weight classes.

They say the 10-pound blanket is meant for someone weighing 65-129 pounds. The 15-pound blanket is intended for someone weighing 130-199 pounds. And the 20-pound weighted blanket is designed for someone weighing 200 pounds and over.

Body Weight Blanket Recommendation
65-129 lbs 10 lb blanket
130-199 lbs 15 lb blanket
200+ lbs 20 lb blanket

Honeybird Weighted Blanket Performance

Warmth

I felt that this blanket was remarkably well-constructed and thoughtfully created for heat issues that pose problems for any hot sleeper.

Often, with other weighted blankets, the heat that builds up becomes a problem. It’s just a natural byproduct of using thicker materials, so finding a way around that inherent problem is essential. It may help keep you comfortable and therefore keep you asleep longer as a result.

Weight

Weighted Blanket Grid

The weight distribution with this blanket is very nice, engineered to keep your effort low. It ensures that clumping stays to a minimum. Less work for me to have to smooth it back out, and it keeps the blanket on my body when I’m sitting on the couch or a chair.

The micro-glass beads are held in 4-inch pockets throughout the blanket arranged in specially engineered diamond patterns. This allows for even weight distribution and optimal contouring to the shape of your body. Many other companies have larger pockets which leads to uneven distribution.

This special attention to detail is what sets Honeybird apart.

Feel

The optional duvet cover is soft! I love a smooth, soft texture for my blankets, pillowcases, clothes, etc. And, this cotton duvet cover certainly satisfied those preferences. No doubt it’s a game-changer if you care about velvety textures. The optional cover is also dual-sided. One is a cooling cotton layer, while the other side is plush and gives a more cost feel. I believe you’ll enjoy the feeling of the optional duvet cover just like I do. Don’t worry. The duvet cover is removable and washable too. There are multiple tie-down locations for the cover so that it stays in place with use.

This is an underrated feature. We’ve all been in that spot where the blanket slides out of place or the pillow starts coming out of the case.

Size

Just so you know, this is a throw-sized blanket. You can’t order it in standard mattress sizes, so it’s meant more for personal use rather than as a bedding addition. I liked it for situations such as watching TV on the couch or as a midday napper blanket on the couch or recliner.

That said, if you are sleeping on your own, this will work just fine for you in bed too. It also allows you to get a more personalized feel. You can use it for yourself and not worry about the other person feeling weighed down from the blanket since it is such a personal item.

Price

Starting at just $105, owning a Honeybird weighted blanket will cost you less than $0.30 cents a day for a year of better sleep.

Compared to other weighted blankets on the market, this is on the lower end while staying an exceptionally high-quality product. It is more expensive than the typical blanket but has much more to offer.

Not only will you reap the benefits of a weighted blanket, but you also get a product that feels exceptionally soft that can improve your quality of sleep. Nonetheless, the construction is high quality, so you won’t have to worry about poor craftsmanship for this price tag.

Delivery, Warranty, and Returns

Overall, the Honeybird weighted blanket helped me get more restful sleep by keeping me asleep and adding the right pressure for me.

It may not be for everyone, but the trial period that Honeybird offers gives you the chance to test it out yourself. If you struggle with sleeping or anxiety, you may want to give this a try.

Commonly Asked Questions

The weighted blanket itself is not washable, but the optional removable duvet cover is completely machine washable. If you wish to clean the weighted insert, we recommend spot cleaning.

Weighted blankets are safe but should only be used by those who could remove the blanket easily without assistance to prevent suffocation. Honeybird does not recommend them for anyone under 65 lbs and for those that are unable to lift over 20 lbs.

Also, if you have people in the household who should not use the product, store the blanket out of reach. For children and pets, the small parts and filling could present a choking hazard if ingested.

While it may not work for everyone, weighted blankets have been a useful tool for people who struggle with anxiety, stress, and poor sleep by healthcare professionals like occupational therapists.
